About Break the Cycle

We aim to promote healthy relationships for children and young people across Southend-on-Sea in Essex

Break the Cycle was launched by Safe Steps, a specialist domestic abuse agency, in 2016. We are funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Our services include:

SaveLives logo

A Safe Lives accredited Young People’s Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (YP IDVA) for young people experiencing abusive relationships.

Our YP IDVA service can help you with:

  • Risk assessments and safety planning

  • Support with social care and school

  • Support through the Criminal and Civil Justice System

  • Advocacy

  • Housing

Help for young people who are in recovery from abusive relationships. This includes one-to-one support covering:

  • Self-esteem

  • Education on healthy relationships

  • Coping strategies for mental health

  • Establishing boundaries and assertiveness

  • Help to understand the impact of trauma

  • Confidence

Help for young people
School-based prevention programme

A school-based prevention programme delivering class workshops on health relationships and the warning signs of controlling and abusive behaviour. These can be both one-off sessions or as part of a longer programme. The programme and content is tailored for the different Key Stages.
